DIY Norwegian Bunad

This year I wanted to pick up a ‘summer project’ that was off the screen. I had just been feeling so burnt out and wanting to get my creative juices flowing in a different way, so I had the idea – “What if I sew my own Norwegian Bunad!?” – As you know my Norwegian heritage has always been a huge part of my life and I was raised wearing the Norwegian traditional dress, “bunad”, at Christmas time when I was a kid. I have been squeezing into the dress that I wore when I was a teenager, and there just isn’t anymore room for more safety pins after having babies haha. So I found this pattern on Etsy, rounded up my cousins/sisters and dove right in! I remember taking that first cut into the fabric thinking “what the heck am I doing!?” – it was such an intimidating project and I made lots of mistakes along the way, but after about 8 weeks, I’m so proud that it came together! No more sucking in and trying to fit into my teenage dress anymore hahah! See more on my instagram here and here!
